New Home Star Donates Over $11,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Through 5K Race

By Star Report 1 min read

Chicago, IL - New Home Star hosted its third annual National GEM Run, a 5K initiative to promote wellness and honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Beginning in October, GEM Run participants, which included employees, friends, family, and builder partners, started a four-week training program and were given the opportunity to run for dollars, with each mile logged being matched by a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. On October 29 or 30, participants were encouraged to partake in a 5K race, and upon completion, a bonus donation was given to the foundation. With the team’s help, nearly 1,500 miles were run, and New Home Star was able to donate over $11,000.

This initiative was created based on New Home Star’s Giving Every Moment (GEM) project, a company-wide volunteer and service program, which was implemented to carry out one of the organization’s core values of giving in meaningful ways. “Our National GEM Run is a true testament to our organization’s purpose,” says Marketing Manager, Erin Henderson. “Our team willingly comes together, rallies around the cause, and creates such a significant impact during the process.”

Throughout the four-week challenge, team members logged their miles and posted updates on the organization’s sales enablement platform, New Home Connect™. “Each year, I see more excitement around this initiative,” says New Home Star VP of Organizational Development, Keith McKinney. “It’s inspiring to see the engagement throughout the month, and even more amazing to see the heart behind all those who participate and cheer each other on.”
